HD PLUS GmbH, based in Unterföhring, Germany and a part of leading satellite provider SES, provides its customers with the latest television programs in superior HD quality. In 2009, the company launched its HD+ service as a linear offering to complement its existing unencrypted satellite TV programs.
In 2013, HD PLUS GmbH extended its offering by introducing HD+ RePlay, a video on-demand service that includes the biggest private TV channels’ media libraries – also called catch-up service.
HD PLUS GmbH’s primary business objective was to increase HD+ RePlay’s coverage by extending the number of devices that could support the service. HD PLUS GmbH sought an experienced technology provider that could create a technical concept and implement the DRM solution for the new IDTV service. Since HD PLUS GmbH put high priority on its IDTV solution’s responsiveness, it desired a scalable, extendable infrastructure that could adapt to future demands.
Axinom has been chosen as partner in terms of consulting, implementing and operating the new DRM solution for HD+ RePlay on IPTV.
By leveraging Axinom DRM, HD PLUS GmbH was able to set the stage for a new IDTV service – one that meets the requirements of device manufacturers and content providers. HD PLUS GmbH relied on Axinom’s unparalleled skillset and customer-centric philosophy to accomplish its IDTV business goals, and since device manufacturers and content providers alike prefer PlayReady, this technology choice was a big factor in the project’s success.
HD PLUS GmbH’s new IDTV offering represents an important step towards strengthening the company’s position on the video-on-demand market.
- “Extending the HD+ RePlay service to IDTV devices is a very important strategic step for us. Axinom was the right partner who – due to the technological know-how – could support us extensively during the conceptualization and implementation of an optimal DRM-solution. The use of Microsoft PlayReady enabled HD PLUS to complete a successful and sustainable entry into the IDTV-market.”Joerg EichVice President of Broadcast Services, SES Platform Services
